The BACKGROUND
How has Traditional Chinese Medicine helped millions of people?
Traditional Chinese Medicine has helped millions of people maintain and regain their health. Since this system of healthcare may be different than other care you’ve received it’s only natural to have questions.
FAQS
What is the approach used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which includes the use of Acupuncture, Herbal Formulas along with other adjunct modalities are used to treat your whole self, not just your symptoms. At Perry Family Health, we take the time and get to the root cause of your concerns, and then we treat all of you.
Your First Appointment
What will my first appointment be like?
Initial appointments can last up to two hours. Your practitioner will take an overview of your health history and will spend time getting to know both you and your current health concerns. Your practitioner will also use the commonly used TCM diagnostic tools such as tongue and pulse diagnosis. Following the diagnosis, your practitioner will likely use acupuncture and other TCM modalities such as the incorporation of cupping and/or herbs.
What should I wear to my first appointment?
Please wear loose-fitting clothing to your first appointment and all following appointments. This is very important so that you feel comfortable and that the proper form of treatment can be provided with ease. There may be times where you are partially clothed during your acupuncture appointment simply so that the most effective points on the body can be used for treatment.
Should I eat before coming in for my appointment?
Before coming in for your appointment, we recommend drinking water and eating a light meal. Please avoid consuming caffeine and alcohol.
What does acupuncture feel like? Will it be painful?
Each person is unique and so is each acupuncture treatment. Many customers describe acupuncture as a tiny, tiny pinch at first. During your session, your body temperature may shift or you may feel a tingly sensation in your body. But, believe it or not, many patients report not feel anything at all! Perry Family Health’s acupuncture services are designed to be calming and can actually reduce any pain or discomfort. So, come in and get ready to relax!
TREATMENT PLANS
What will my treatment plan look like?
Once your doctor has gathered enough information, a recommended treatment plan will be provided before the end of your first visit. This treatment will include an overview of your health imbalances, the timeline of your treatment plan, and the types of treatment you will receive following your first visit.
How does your treatment work?
To treat any Qi imbalances, thin, sterile needles will be inserted at specific body points along meridian pathways. Your acupuncturist will concentrate on points related to specific organs, based on your unique health and symptoms. In addition to acupuncture, other types of treatment may be recommended cupping, gua sha, or customized herbal treatment plans.
After My Appointment
Will I feel any discomfort after acupuncture?
We understand that acupuncture can be scary if you’ve never had it before, but we are here to reassure you that there’s nothing to be afraid of. In fact, it is quite normal to feel very relaxed following your acupuncture treatment. Some people may experience a slight light-headed feeling immediately after the session, yet most people are able to continue on with normal day-to-day activities. Please avoid any intense exercise / physical activities following your appointment.
